Timber has earned a reputation as having a short life coupled with high maintenance costs. Sadly, too often, this was the case.

My courses will teach you how to write a meaningful timber specification that delivers a product fit for purpose. Just as important as having timber of high durability and an appropriate grade is knowing how to use it well.

These courses will explain good practice that adds years to a timber structure's life.

"Well designed timber components are rarely matched by other materials for their natural beauty and warmth that age gracefully with little maintenance if designed within the parameters of the species . . . Ted Stubbersfield's technical guidelines and seminars underscored by many years of practical experience has filled the gaps in the design standards and imparted his extensive knowledge and know-how to our designers and specifiers."

CPD Training

Ted is very experienced in delivering CPD training at universities and professional offices. He specialised in weather exposed applications which many have difficulty with. Ted can remove the mystery of it for you.

Ted's technical guides can be purchased here as PDF files. Hard copies and Kindle can be purchased from Amazon. Four of the guides are free.

Consulting Services

Ted can assist with advice on design (as with this playground), inspections, assesments and expert witness reports

Hi, I’m Ted Stubbersfield

My parents called me Edgar, but everyone knows me as Ted. I love nothing more than to share a lifetime of knowledge with anyone who wants to excel in weather exposed timber structures and landscaping.

I can teach you how to deliver long-lived, low-maintenance timber structures in the harsh Australian climate in such demanding applications as bridges, boardwalks, architectural battens, and playgrounds. My CPD sessions draw on the 23 guides I have written on using timber in specialised and demanding applications. I am a third-generation sawmiller.

I specialised in the manufacture of bridges and landscaping which outlasted and outperformed my competitors.

I am not just a sawmiller as I have a masters degree with the University of Wales. And have been published across a range of disciplines, not just timber.
